Brian O’Malley, Brian OMalley, Motivational Speaker   Brian just spoke for the Arrow Electronics MOCA computer conference at the St. Regis in Dana Point, CA sponsored by Sun Micro Systems. Here is a quote from the host: “I just wanted to thank you again for your tremendous keynote address at our 2008 Net@Work Partner Forum. I did not think you could top your presentation from when you joined us in 1999, but I was wrong!

The experiences you shared of how to conquer the “mountains” and challenges facing each one of us individually resonated with our customer attendees. What made your presentation so powerful was that the lessons you imparted transcended just practical professional advice by inspiring our audience to achieve success in the areas that truly matter most in life.

In closing, I have been attending our annual Net@Work Partner Forum for nearly a decade, and for the last four years, have been responsible for overseeing the entire event from start to finish. We have had some talented keynote presenters in that span, but there have only been TWO who have received a standing ovation…and that was when you attended our conference in 1999, and when you returned here in 2008.” Jeff L, Director of Marketing

Did you watch the Grammy’s last night? How would you like to hold one of John Lennon’s Grammy’s? A few years ago I had heard a rumor that the Grammy’s were made somewhere in Colorado. I’m a big music fan and I thought it would be fun to investigate if the rumor was true and go see for myself. That adventure is for a future post… You know what they say, “A picture is worth thousand words”. Grammy__s_Brian__02Web.jpg

Sir Edmund Hillary, “One of the greatest of our time” 1919-2008

Sir Edmund Hillary with Brian O’Malley
Sad news today. Sir Edmund Hillary has passed away. He was a true adventurer, devoted humanitarian and all around great person. He was a humble bee-keeper from New Zealand, best know for being the first person, along with Tenzing Norgay, a native Sherpa, to reach the summit of Mt. Everest and safely climb back down on May 29, 1953.

I had the honor of meeting Hillary during one of his visits to Colorado and had the unique opportunity to spend some time with him in Nepal. I participated in helping him dedicate a school in the Solu Khumbu district, the home of Mt. Everest. Sir Ed was a hero and a true inspiration for me personally.

I recall one afternoon while sitting on a rock bench with Hillary at the Tengboche Monastery, he turned to me and said, “It’s not the mountain we conquer, it’s ourselves.”

We will miss you Sir Ed… Namaste and “Sherpa speed” on your way to your next adventure.

Chic_Soup_Web.pngThe new “Chicken Soup for the Nurses Soul” book was just released and I was honored to be one of the contributing authors. The featured story is about my brother Tom who was involved in a tragic accident that took the life of his wife Sharon and his son Tim. Tom was also critically hurt and suffered a debilitating brain injury. His nursing team played a huge part in his remarkable recovery. It’s an inspiring story. Over the years I have had the honor to be the keynote speaker at a number of “Nurses Week” events and Nursing conferences. Nurses are one of my all time favorite audiences. Meeting planners understand the importance of the speaker that understands and relates to their group. Having been involved in EMS or Emergency Medical Service for over 25 years, I can definitely relate to nurses. Here are some of the written comments the meeting planner received from a recent nursing convention where I presented Mt. Everest, The Spirit of Adventure program. The conference was for NetLearning, an online Nursing education company. Read the rest of this entry »

Ice Climbing, Ouray Colorado,

I’m often asked what my secret is to motivating and inspiring audiences with my Everest – Spirit of Adventure keynote. I believe the key is three-fold. 1. Be yourself. 2. Be your message. 3. Be passionate.

  1. Be true to yourself. Just like in politics, an audience can sniff out a fake in less than a minute. Being true to yourself means speaking, motivating and inspiring audiences about something you live out in your own life everyday.
  2. Be true to your message. If your message is to create adventure in your life then your life needs to reflect the motivation you are trying to build in others.
  3. Be passionate. If you aren’t motivated and inspired by your own story, don’t expect anyone else to be. Now, I don’t mean over the top ego rah rah, just the opposite. You need to be both humble and passionate about your topic. If you believe adventure is important but you are not personally inspired by adventure then don’t try to fake the passion.
